underneath the stars
I'll wait for you darling.

You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching
Love like you'll never be hurt
Sing like there's nobody listening
And live like it's heaven on earth

a random digression. since tonight is a rest and relax night.

i think a lot of people misunderstand anime. they think it's merely animated drawings. cartoons is an even more derogatory word for it. i think cartoons imply more slapstick humour with not much plot, very much like the daily comics you see in the newspaper. anime is as much an art form, as the dramas, movies and other forms of visual entertainment out there. if you can look past the fact that they are indeed drawings, you can appreciate seriously how an artist can bring so much emotions just into the still drawn faces of a character. and because you don't use real life actors, there's no unnatural acting most of the time, japanese seiyuu (voice actors) are sooo believable, and there's so much more room for a plot that doesn't meander within the boundaries of reality.

and gosh, music is really what takes the cake. (even in movies) some anime have the best soundtracks i have ever come across. Listen to this (if interested) Ignore the pictures haha, sometimes some fans go overboard with pictures LOL, but the thing is really the music! the pics would have no significance to anyone who doesnt watch. Inuyasha has one of the best full instrumental soundtracks i have ever heard. The traditional japanese string instruments that weave a steady beat throughout the entire piece of music, sets the mood of the show, that is set in the Feudal Era of Japan. At 0.54, the flute is freakingggg good. omg. haha idk, but the theme music for just one character can bring out all her flaws and traits. the sad resignation to fate, the inability to do what one's heart craves but to be constricted within the boundaries of what is expected of one, but the melody still speaks of a serene graceful nature. But the brass instruments at 1.15, that strides alongside the flute, srsly damnnnn nice-- its like an undercurrent of underlying determination and strength.

haha okay. whatever. i am crapping. but i love it. was listening to it one night in bed. i don't even like the character thattttt much, but after listening to the song, wow.

hahaha okay anw. while on the track of reminiscing about random stuff.... i think MEP was really quite fun! even for those 2 short years. the curriculum (tho i still really think memorising stuff for essays on chinese/malay/traditional music/ opera/composers was kindaa forcefitting it...) when they let us have enrichment stuff like analysing music in films/etc.. haha it was damn nice. 203 was fun. i rmb renci was suchhh a good influence, every other day we'd call each other for random nonsense, like playing anime songs on the piano, a new score we found, a random new anime we were watching, talking while using a jap dictionary. hahaha :) i found so many more piano scores online in those years than now. my poor dusty piano~ so many pro musically inclined pple. (totally not me tho, i might have a grade 8, but im super darn lousyyyy. hahaha grades are so not indicative)

the oral/listening component in exams were so funny.... like wow, im supposed to identify what the interval between the notes is?? hahahhaa randomly try to guess the number of notes difference (i.e. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th-10plusplus) then if it's augmented- it'd sound crazy, major would sound happy, minor would sound sad, diminished would sound depressed. HAHA. and then you say augmented 6th interval and if you're correct, you can pretend you actually knew it and not a lucky guess XD i think i was a horrible music student, totally dun have perfect pitch, could only ever do the easiest bits (like tell the diff between romantic/classical/baroque/contemporary (who cant haha)), but well... i guess at the end of the day its about appreciation. so its kay.

lol i like sad songs, so easy to play on piano XP (ah well, my standard is less than grade 5 now XD) so sadddd (listen-- not mine)
